Professor Dermot Hodson is an Irish writer whose work explores the politics and culture of contemporary Europe. A professor at Loughborough University and a Visiting Professor at the College of Europe, his book Circle of Stars: A History of the EU and the People Who Made It (Yale University Press, 2023) tells the story of the politicians, thinkers and cultural figures who helped to create the world’s most ambitious and controversial international organisation. Educated at Trinity College Dublin, the College of Europe in Bruges, and the London School of Economics, he previously worked at the European Commission in Brussels and Birkbeck College in London. He has written for the Irish Times, Guardian, Politico Europe and the Washington Post, and appeared on RTÉ’s Drivetime, BBC Radio 4’s The World Tonight and Newstalk’s Talking History with Patrick Geoghegan.
