Iain MacGregor is the author of the acclaimed history of Cold War Berlin: Checkpoint Charlie, and the recently published The Lighthouse of Stalingrad: The Hidden Truth Behind WWII’s Greatest Battle, a revelatory history drawing on newly discovered and unpublished sources.  

As a history student, Iain visited East Germany, the Baltic and the Soviet Union in the early 1980s and he has been captivated by modern history ever since. In his career as an editor and publisher of nonfiction he has published books on every aspect of the Second World War working alongside bestselling and award-winning authors such as Max Hastings, Simon Schama, James Barr and Michael Wood.

He is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, has spoken at many literary festivals in the UK and abroad, and appeared on bestselling podcasts such as BBC History Extra, The Rest is History and on television documentaries with Dan Snow’s History Hit channel. He lives with his wife and two children in London.
