Yui Miles is a Thai cookery writer, teacher and private chef. Growing up in a Thai-Chinese family where cooking and eating were always a focus of daily life, Yui gained an appreciation for food from a young age, learning how to cook classic dishes from her mother as well as her aunt, who was a chef in the Thai royal kitchen. One of her earliest memories is being woken up at 4am to prepare food to feed the monks at her local temple, which would be shared after morning prayers.
When Yui got married and moved to the UK in 2001, she refined her skills by cooking Thai and Asian food at dinner parties for her friends and family, incorporating British elements with an Asian twist. She reached the MasterChef UK quarter finals in 2019 and won Channel 4’s Beat the Chef in the same year.
She runs an engaged Instagram account where she regularly posts recipes and cooking tips, and has worked with brands such as Sainsbury’s and Amoy to create unique Asian recipes, along with the tourism authority for Thailand and Royal Thai Embassy. Her recipes have been published by Good Food, Feast and National Geographic.
Yui’s first cookbook, Thai Made Easy, aiming to demystify the process of cooking flavourful Thai dishes at home, was published by Quadrille in 2023.
