Vanessa Kisuule's HOLLOW goes viral #BlackLivesMatter

Ed Wilson June 16, 2020

In the wake of the dismounting of the Colston statue, Bristol-based poet and performer Vanessa Kisuule recorded a poem that spoke from the heart. Liked and retweeted over 20,000 times and gathering over 650,000 views in 48 hours, HOLLOW has already attracted interest from journalists, academics and publications on both sides of the Atlantic.

Her accompanying message is: "I've never been prouder to be Bristol City Poet & to offer a poem to my adopted city than I am today. This piece is called HOLLOW and I hope you like it. I've captioned it and everything! Rust in shame, Eddie."

Vanessa’s one woman show SEXY, which uses truthful wit and clever verse to explore our conflicted relationship with our bodies and sexiness, is currently on tour.  She is also writing her debut novel.
