Maria Lewis is an author, screenwriter and film curator based in Australia. Her writing on pop culture has appeared in publications such as the New York Post, Guardian, Empire Magazine, i09, Junkee and many more. A journalist for over 16 years, she transitioned into working in television as a writer and guest presenter on live nightly news program The Feed on SBS. She also works as a screenwriter for television, film and children’s animation.

She is the author of the Supernatural Sisters series, eight brilliantly-received urban fantasy novels that focus on a variety of female ‘monsters’ in a shared supernatural universe. Her best-selling debut nove,l Who's Afraid? and its sequel, Who’s Afraid Too? were nominated for Best Horror Novel at the Aurealis Awards. These books are currently being developed for television. Her fourth book, The Witch Who Courted Death, won Best Fantasy Novel at the Aurealis Awards in 2019, and The Wailing Woman was nominated for the same award a year later. She completed the series with The Rose Daughter, and finally Her Fierce Creatures in 2022. Her next standalone novel, The Graveyard Shift, will be published by Angry Robot in Autumn 2023.

Maria is also the host, writer and producer of the limited podcast series Josie & The Podcats about the 2001 cult film, and a film curator at Australia's national museum of screen culture.
